Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne is a popular place to visit year round. In the warmer months, they host several walks, runs, and concerts. In the winter, you can go ice skating! The cost is just $5 for adults (+$2 if you need skates) and you can stay as long as you like. I would suggest going when it’s lightly snowing because there won’t be as many people and this rink is COVERED!
I have a love-hate relationship with ice skating. I think it is a beautiful, graceful sport (but mostly I love any sport that includes copious amounts of glitter and sequins). I also think it is incredibly painful on my ankles, I’m terrified of falling (aka being embarrassed in front of children and families), and it’s outside. In the cold. Why would I want to spend time outside when it’s cold?
Jason grew up in Chicago and spent his winters playing hockey when he couldn’t ride his dirtbike. His confidence on the ice is envious. Thankfully, with him around, I am 90% less likely to fall. The ice was a little uneven but my skates were tightly laced (thanks Jason!) and we were off. After a few minutes, I began to look less like Bambi on ice for the first time and more like Michelle Kwan. (not really but I was feeling it!) Then the zamboni came out to smooth the ice. After a few more laps, we were sweating. A great winter workout! After about an hour and a half, my ankles couldn’t take it anymore and we returned my skates and went to Longhorn Steakhouse to warm up. Headwaters Park was spruced up for the holidays and is definitely a place we will return to.
