Portage, IN – Quaker Steak & Lube

On the way to IN from IA, I had a case of Christmas Brain. Symptoms include not knowing what day of the week it is, not being able to sleep comfortably because you’ve eaten literally everything, wondering if you can just leave your tree up all year, finding Ugly Sweaters start looking cuter and cuter, and your brain turning into sugary mush from all the times you said, “I’ll just have one” to chocolate, cookies, and fudge at each of the 28 Christmas parties you attended.

Because of this, I missed our exit towards Valparaiso while Jason was sleeping. BUT! Everything happens for a reason and we ended up in Portage, IN! Starving and lost, Jason recognized a place he had been and said we had to have lunch there because I was going to LOVE it.

Quaker Steak & Lube!

Quaker Steak & Lube is known for their wide variety of wing sauces (25 flavors!) and motorsports decor. With numerous awards under their belt and motorcycles and muscle cars above their tables, Quaker Steak & Lube is a MUST for any motorsports fan! During the warmer months, they host a number of cool events like a huge Bike Night and Car Cruise-In as well as weekly specials. Tuesday All-You-Can-Eat Chicken Wing Night and Happy Hour would be my favorites for sure.

We walked in to see a sprint car driven by Davey Jones hanging above us. Took a right and passed a guy on a Kawasaki dirt bike crashing through the window. Our seats were under an old Moto Guzzi by the garage door windows. Jason got a steak and fries and I had a cod sandwich. They were both incredible.

If you’re ever headed near Valparaiso (maybe to go to Eldora Speedway?) I would recommend stopping even if just to sit in the Foster’s Indy Car out front!

Really cool. I am really happy for Jason, he seems very happy and I know you are a big part of that! I keep telling to stop by when you guys are in the area… And if it’s after April 1st you guys can come to the race shop and see the cars and if we time it right catch a race…
